The Addams Family Rehearsals: Week Two

The second week of rehearsals saw us gather the entire company of The Addams Family for the first time – cast, creatives, backstage teams, producers, PR and marketing. The day began with everyone going around the circle and introducing themselves, followed by a talk from Director, Andrew White, who spoke about the history of The Addams Family from Charles Addams’ original sketches in the New Yorker to the later films and the history of the show and its creative team. This was a great opportunity to make sure everyone is on the same page with what we’re creating and its backstory as this is the base on which we will build over the coming weeks.

For many, Monday was their first opportunity to see the set design, complete with a model box, as well as sketches of each cast members’ costumes – beautifully drawn by Designer, Diego Pitarch.

After a busy Monday getting to know everyone and getting to grips with every aspect of the production, the cast jumped straight in to rehearsals and costume fittings. The ancestor makeup started to make an appearance in makeup trials and ensemble members were asked to begin developing their individual ancestor characters giving them a backstory and deciding how they die! They also began perfecting the art of the bunny hop in dance rehearsals…

Lurch (aka Dickon Gough) celebrated his birthday at rehearsals this week complete with ancestral singing and a cake with invisible candles! The first of many Addams Family themed birthdays no doubt on our upcoming 9 month tour.

Composer and Lyricist, Andrew Lippa dropped in to rehearsals later in the week to speak with cast members about his work on the show up to now and share what he loves about these characters and what he hopes audiences will experience when seeing the show.

On Thursday morning Samantha Womack joined Phil and Holly on the This Morning sofa to discuss The Addams Family and give viewers a short glimpse of her performance of ‘Just Around The Corner’. Watch the full interview below.

The end of the week saw our Fester, Les Dennis, suiting up and heading to the Pink Ribbon Ball in aid of Breast Cancer Now. Les auctioned off a pair of tickets for The Addams Family and will be continuing his support for the charity in 3 weeks’ time by shaving his head for the role of Fester, and raising money at the same time.
